Tonga's Hon. Minister for Public Enterprises leads Tonga's Delegation at the 26th Pacific Power Association (PPA) Conference
The Hon. Minister for Public Enterprises, Hon Poasi Mataele Tei, leads a delegation of 10 members to attend this year's 26th Annual PPA Conference hosted by Samoa Electric Power Corporation for the second time, which was held at the Sheraton Aggie Greys Hotel in Apia, from 31st July - 04th August 2017.
The Tonga delegation consisted of Government officials, Utilities Board of Directors, CEO and management of Tonga Power Limited. The delegation also included CEO of Public Enterprises - Mr. Sione 'Akau'ola, CEO of Tonga Power Limited - Mr. Robert Matthews, members of the Tonga Power Limited's Board of Directors and the Board Common Secretariat Cassandra Vaea together with three engineers from Tonga Power Limited - Mr. Finau Katoanga, Mr. Samisoni Fatai and Mr. Viliami Palaki.
Each year, the conference gains more participants and offered delegates a combination of speeches, donor showcase sessions, technical presentations, Utility Board Members workshop and the Trade Exhibition of products and services by Allied Members. In this year's conference, there were 250 participants from all over the Pacific attending the six-day conference. They discussed issues around challenges of affordable electricity; energy storage; maintenance of hybrid power generator systems and so forth.
The 26th Annual Pacific Power Association and Trade Exhibition was officially opened on Tuesday 01st August 2017 by the Hon. Minister of Samoa, Tuilaepa Sailele Malielegaoi, the theme was "Affordable Electricity for All".
PPA is an inter-governmental agency and member of the Council of Regional Organizations in the Pacific (CROP) committed to promote the direct cooperation of the Pacific island power utilities in technical training, exchange of information, sharing of senior management and engineering expertise and other activities of benefit to the members. The CEO for Tonga Power Limited, Mr. Robert Matthews is a member of the PPA Board of Directors.
The PPA Secretariat confirmed that Palau will be hosting next year's conference, which is the 27th Annual PPA conference.
