November 1st 2024:Tonga Power Limited is pleased to announce the appointment of Mr. Scott Westbury as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). This strategic leadership appointment is expected to drive TPL’s continued progress and commitment to providing safe, reliable, and sustainable energy solutions for the Kingdom of Tonga.

Mr. Westbury brings extensive experience in the energy and resource sectors. He began his career at Rio Tinto, where he spent six years advancing from a maintenance superintendent to project manager. He then contributed 13 years of senior leadership at New Zealand Aluminium Smelters Limited, managing reduction, metal products, and assets. From 2018 to 2024, Mr. Westbury served as General Manager of Power Schemes, where he honed his expertise in managing complex power operations and supporting sustainable practices.

 A seasoned professional, Mr. Westbury holds a Bachelor of Engineering in Electrical and Electronics from the University of Canterbury, a Master of Engineering Management from the same institution, and a Master of Engineering in Light Metals Reduction Technology from the University of Auckland. His comprehensive technical and leadership background positions him to lead TPL as it continues its mission to advance energy security and enhance the reliability of power generation and delivery for Tonga.

TPL looks forward to Mr. Westbury’s guidance and vision as the company builds upon its achievements to better serve the energy needs of the people of Tonga.
